Afghanistan Starvation

Auto Date Thursday, April 30th, 2009

There appears to be many people in Afghanistan that were starving and it is said that over 3.5 million Afghans face a severe and critical food shortage. Now some might say this is because they are busy planting poppies instead of planting crops and indeed that is true. However, the fact that people are starving also needs to be addressed. This is why the United Nations “World Food Program” is urging for nations to give their support.

There is only one problem with all of this and that is that many citizens of the world will be asking their governments not to give money because the Afghans will not help themselves and instead wish to pollute the human minds of the world with their drugs. How much is needed to help the 3.5 million people who are starving? About $40 million is needed just for the United Nations world food program and this would be in the neighborhood of 55,000 tons of food.

The United Nations food program is short about half of their goal for Afghanistan and about half of their goal for the rest of the world is well. So what are they doing? They are ration enough food and only bringing half. Some say this will work, but others point out it will cause civil unrest and violence as people fight for the food that is delivered and it will make it very dangerous for volunteers and the United Nations in protecting the supplies and the people.

The Afghanistan government said it’s farmers in Afghanistan do not harvest enough food to meet the consumption goals for the country. There are still some issues that need to be addressed to make Afghanistan viable for its inhabitants. Please consider this in 2006.

Auto Date Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

A Northern Irish, family owned, company have applied to Liverpool council to construct a new fifty million pound commercial centre in the city. The eighteen storey project will provide 225,000 square feet of desk space and will replace current office buildings at 30, Pall Mall, in the city centre.

If given the go ahead, the new offices will be the largest office development of its kind in Liverpool, and work is hoped to begin by the end of 2009. Two office buildings, a covered courtyard, retail outlets, coffee shops and restaurants are included in the plans. This will be the latest of several commercial and residential projects, West Bay Capital have already completed in London, Belfast and Dublin. Similar office redevelopment schemes are occurring in other cities, with the demand for quality office space, many cities such as Bradford have included desk space schemes in their office hire facilities (click here for more info on desk space Bradford).

The company are hopeful their offices will be preferred over that of other office space proposals, with regards to the latest relocation of 2500 Ministry of Justice staff. West Bay MD, Ashley Moore, stated the project was the only one of its kind in Liverpool’s commercial quarter, to meet the needs of the government contract, in terms of space and the potential phasing of the relocation”.

Moore is hopeful they will be working alongside Liverpool’s politicians, to bring about what he believes will be, “a fantastic economic boost for Liverpool.” funding is in place, but a lot relies on the pre-letting of a certain amount of office space, in order for the project to go ahead. If all goes to plan, Moore is adamant the project will provide “a fantastic economic boost” for Liverpool.

Auto Date Monday, April 27th, 2009

The shortage of qualified teachers for elementary education is reaching a crisis. In order to help people pursue their BA degree in teaching many colleges and universities are now offering online programs in elem. education.

A number of online education degree programs exist for those wishing to pursue teaching in a wide variety of subjects and grade levels. Whether you have an interest in science, mathematics, history or the arts you can pursue your dream of becoming a teacher through e-learning programs being setup across the United States. These programs offer flexibility for students who may already be working in another career field or for those who live in remote areas without easy access to higher education facilities.

Teaching can be a rewarding career for many who enjoy sharing their knowledge with students who are eager to learn. Many people find that helping students achieve knowledge is one of the most rewarding careers available because of the unique challenges and the often surprising results. It is not uncommon for people to remember a favorite teacher decades later as someone who helped shape them into who they are today.

Depending on your state’s teacher certification requirements you may be eligible to attend all of your classes virtually. Usually the only time you will need to spend in a classroom environment is towards the end of your degree program when you will practice actual classroom teaching in a school environment. If you have any questions or want to find out more, including financial assistance available to help you pursue your goal, contact your local college of university and find out about e-learning opportunities in your area.

Bloomsday - Celebrating James Joyce’s Ulysses in Dublin and Around the World

Auto Date Sunday, April 26th, 2009

James Joyce is one of the most celebrated writers in history and for good reason. Though his Finnegans Wake is incomprehensible, it is not more so than a Beethoven Symphony. But we don’t ask a Beethoven Symphony to be easily understood because it isn’t written in words.

We do however ask a painting to be understandable. Even though some of the greatest achievements in art history have been abstract, a very large percentage of the world’s people just won’t have it, including Andy Rooney and Morley Safer of 60 Minutes.

Picasso is regarded as the most talented and creative painter in modern times, with the possible exception of Matisse. Even so, to this day, I come across people who refuse to believe that the giant sculpture in Chicago by Picasso is a representation of a head of a woman, even though that is its name.

Stravinsky’s dramatic music for The Rite of Spring scandalized Paris when it opened. Later it was a big part of a Walt Disney movie, Fantasia and children flocked to it. Of course the dinosaurs didn’t hurt the box office.

And now to Bloomsday. It is not for me to say whether Ulysses or Finnegans Wake is the greater masterpiece. But Bloomsday is a celebration of James Joyce. It is named for his main character in Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, and the date is chosen because it is the date on which Ulysses takes place in Dublin in 1904.

Enthusiasts around the world gather together, raise their pints of Guinness and sing the praises of the great genius who brought us the immortal Molly, the unbearable Buck Mulligan, the musical girls Gold and Bronze, the mysterious man in the MacIntosh and others almost as numerous as the characters in The Simpsons.

Convocations (read mobs of plastered fans in pubs) are held in Dublin and other major cities of the world wherein one can present and pretend to listen to papers about deep and Orwellian interpretations of the characters’ minutest hiccoughs. (Notice the old-world spelling; so suave).

It would not surprise me to hear that a stage presentation of an all-hip-hop interpretation of Ulysses was headed for off-off-Broadway. Maybe already done.

There is a remarkable gent named Jorn Barger who has done the most incredible accumulating of Joyce related info on the web that it makes a person wonder how he could possibly have the time to breathe. It contains full texts of much of Joyce’s works. You can take a look here:

He calls his site robotwisdom because he is an artificial intelligence specialist. If you have nothing to do for the rest of your life you can spend it on the rest of his site.

If you have been planning for years to read Ulysses, Bloomsday activities are a great way to get in the swing of it.

If you have not been planning to read Ulysses, whatever in the world are you doing that’s more important than that?

Graduation - The Transition To Success

Auto Date Sunday, April 26th, 2009

In every life there are landmarks, where the life shifts to another plain. The first landmark in a child’s life comes when he/she starts walking. That gives the child freedom to act on their own. Going to school is another landmark, and graduation is a bigger landmark, because one gets the freedom to go out in the world and make one’s mark in professional world. Till we become a graduate, we only think of the future. After graduating, we get the power to mould our future.

Why Graduation is an important factor?

With graduation, we get a qualification that opens many doors for us. Graduation also brings us at par with millions of other graduates and gives us the pride of being a graduate. It changes our outlook towards life and suddenly we feel that we are responsible citizens who have to make contributions to society and also take ourselves forward in life to achieve our dreams. Till few centuries ago, when there was no formal education, there were no graduates. people used to act on their own at different ages. With the advent of formal education, the society gives us indicators about the future path.

How graduation helps achieving dreams ?

All of us have a dream. Ask a small child about his dream and you will get answers such as I want to become a big man like dad, or I want to become superman, or I want to become a pilot and such things. A child looks at certain people with awe and wants to emulate them. As he/she grows up, the reality dawns that there are many more fields to show one’s strength. With graduation, a child becomes an adult. He/she has to then work their own plan and make their dream real. If the next step after graduation goes in the right direction, the future may open immense possibilities of growth. That is how graduation helps achieving dreams. A landmark that tells you that from here onward you are on your own. Go forward and conquer the world. Make your dreams real. Become a proud citizen, and make your country proud with your actions and achievements.

Barrister Bookcases in Retrospect - Its Intriguing

Auto Date Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Any library is characterized by a eminent bookcase. volumes are safe and free from dirt and junk in a bookcase. A basic bookshelf has level shelves to retain publications. If you wish you can also have glass doors to blanket these volumes and show the backs of the books for comfortable reference.

What do you mean by a barrister bookcase?

Barristers or attorneys want to make use of various heavy and tremendous books in the course of their practice. the legal journals are costly and attorneys need to refer them often. Barristers bookcases are robust and hold good utility for a lawyer. Oak and cherry wood is the desired choice for creating these lawyers bookcases in umpteen finishes and chromaticities.

What was the method of keeping volumes prior to barrister bookcases?

people did not feel the demand for a bookcase as books were a rarity. books in past years were hand-written only. rich individuals who owned them stored them in reachable containers. It was the wealthy mans privilege to own and carry books as they were not affordable. these rich men utilised these containers to store books.

As time passed, these manuscript volumes were owned by lots of such clergymen and affluent people in a large number. These books found a place in the closet or on a shelf. The bookshelves that we see Today are an offspring of these cupboards in the past, without the doors.

What technique was employed for stashing away books?

These books were not located with a modern approach. The books would be located on their sides or with the edge on the forefront. The volumes used to be closed with a band created of leather, vellum or parchment that carried the title of the book. the books edge showed its name and thats why they had to face outwards.

After printing technology was formulated, books were easily available to the common man due to the reduced costs. Because the titles could be published behind the book, the edges were not facing outward any more.

Which materials were mainly used?

In the past days, barrister bookcases were made of oak principally. there were other choices of maple, cherry and pine wood if you liked. You can also go for economical choices such as steel in creating a barrister bookcase. Some of the oldest bookcases are in England in the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. they were kept in the library in the sixteenth century.

The two major bookcase designers were Chippendale and Sheraton who made beautiful bookcases glazed with little tablets wrapped in latticework frames. their bookcases gave the room a classy look.

Shifts In the Bookcases.

Because a barrister might require moving in to different chambers often, a portable barrister bookcase has been planned to serve their wants. this portable bookcase is produced of several shelf units. all it takes to be a complete barrister bookcase is an additional hood and plinth. This is sincerely movable as you dont demand to remove anything from the shelf to move it to another position!

The “Extra” in Extracurricular Activities for College-bound Hopefuls

Auto Date Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Recently, colleges are reviewing too many applications where student are addicted to getting good grades, but sacrificing the time to figure out what makes them “tick” becoming somewhat robotic in an increasing competitive atmosphere. Although the academic criteria remains the driving force of college admissions, the problem lies with what to do when you have too many applicants have the GPA between 3.80-4.0. Many of us have heard the stories of the students with the 4.0 not getting in, while students with less academic numbers are. Sure, colleges want students who will do well academically at their campus, but also they want their students to come in with ideas and energy towards developing innovation, contributing creativity, and eventually receiving recognition. With this in mind, colleges need students who can go beyond the expectation, who has a love in life whether its sports, volunteer work, a talent, traveling, the list goes on. Most importantly, students need to articulate this “difference” in a 4-8 page application.

Ok, now how to do this. It is important that students do two things at all times while maintaining a good academic record: 1) Have the personal time to breathe and relax, and 2) Commit to something that they love (or at least like). Students who are committed to one activity for 2-4 years show a much stronger commitment and level of motivation compared to the student with 20 for short periods of time. And still, students involved with more two or more activities for 2-4 years shows even potential.

When I was an admission counselor for a University of California campus, I questioned the college application that listed a slew of activities, which seemed to have no connection or correlation to one another. The applicant would squeeze activities on the sides of the pages “1 month volunteering at the hospital, 2 times going to the homeless shelter, 2 months interning at the pet adoption center, 6 months taking piano lessons, etc.” Although the page was “full,” my first assumption was full of questionable motivation and lack of commitment. I questioned if the student only participated in these things for the sole purpose of filling out this page, and hoped to have an explanation in the student’s essay. Many times I don’t get the explanation and my assumption continues on.

Always keep in mind that colleges want student who can think critically and pursue an idea, not student who can follow rules and meet expected criteria - it’s about thinking outside the box. Sports footwear is maybe the most required piece of equipment you’ll buy so it’s crucial that you choose the most appropriate pair.

A great number of people do not recognise that there are huge differences in the way sports shoes help your feet. It’s not great for your feet if you participate in football or tennis in the exact same trainers you use whilst jogging.

“Unfortunately, 65% of the UK’s recreational men and women athletes put on the incorrect footwear for their elected sports activity,” he says. “Trainers are the most fundamental piece of exercise gear you’ll ever get hold of and varying what you wear on your feet can avert injuries.”

Football can put a great deal of pressure on the feet, particularly when playing on synthetic pitches for example AstroTurf. The boots can also put pressure on your feet, & it’s not strange for a footballer to suffer from corns, calluses or damaged, thickened and ingrown toenails. A marvellous well-fitted pair of boots is critical and there shouldn’t be any signs of pressure on the foot after a match or training session.

Racquet sports: It’s imperative when participating in racquet sports, for example tennis or badminton, to decide on shoes expressly intended for the purpose. These sports activity involve a great deal of right-to-left movement and running shoes won’t offer the best strength.
