High definition televisions, also known as HDTVs, are a latest revolution in the field of television and electronics. The basic function of a HDTV tuner is to receive signals in an ATSC format, decode them and convert them into high resolution HDTV signals that are then displayed on a HDTV screen. Apart from this, a tuner is also responsible for improving the picture quality from a standard 16:9 format to a range that is something between 720p to 1080i. Usually, these tuners usually come integrated with a HDTV. However, they can also be installed separately as a set-up box and are connected as an interface between the HDTV and the antenna. External tuners are generally required for analog and digital televisions that do not contain any inbuilt tuner. One can get a tuner from any shop that sells a HDTV and its related equipment and accessories. These shops usually sell tuners that are compatible with a specific model of HDTV.
