Would Increased Competition in Gaming Laptops Be Beneficial for Us

Auto Date Sunday, August 10th, 2008

The days where laptops for gaming were a specialist market are vanishing very fast. The shipments were by no means very great but they did generate increased mark up’s on each notebook than others. They were the notebooks you constantly thought of but were out of your reach. They were evidently the best laptop computers that the technology could offer at that time. Having mentioned that most of us probably did not buy laptop computers of this type because of the cost. As of late it appears as if bigger brands are all entering the market really rapidly and things are changing.

If mass manufactured, brands can render huge markups on gaming notebooks. These days the usual laptop computer margins are very tiny so it presents the chance for them to retrieve the gross profits. With their gigantic marketing budgets I am certain they can persuade anybody to buy laptop computers like these. Do the smaller players even stand a chance with this kind of threat? The top end technology will quickly make its way into the view of the average consumers. Multinational companies can apply their brand names to effortlessly win purchasers over. I guess they surely are producing a few of the best laptop computers available to buy. This will provide a bit of encouragement to the littler competition. Most of the time the pre built laptops are good performers however not powerful enough and a couple of customers don’t take well to that. This kind of consumer is normally well versed in the technical details and can contrast the specs. For these sort of prospects, the power of a computer usually matter more than the design of it.

Certainly from the purchasers perspective, its a good situation. This would act to make the premium technology increasingly accessible for the customer. I am not actually certain any of that would occur though. The best laptop computers are more often then not going to be out of reach if I’m telling the truth. We will find out what we can anticipate from the gaming notebook markets large players.

In my view these guys http://www.rizeon.com/gaming_laptops/page.php are selling gaming laptops at cheap prices.

Sibling DNA Testing

Auto Date Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Sibling DNA testing is designed to determine sibling genetic relationships. Such tests establish the statistical probability of whether the siblings share the same two parents. A DNA sibling test can be performed to analyze the relationship of biological siblings by collecting samples from both siblings; however, including one common parent increases the accuracy of this type of analysis, and is highly recommended.

While conducting sibling DNA testing, the DNA laboratory determines the genetic profile of the alleged siblings and, based on the type of genetic material inherited by each sibling, a DNA index is determined. Based on the results of the DNA index, the sibling relationship is established and a higher value DNA index indicates a greater likelihood that the two individuals are true biological siblings. For instance, a DNA index of less than 1.00 indicates non-relatedness, whereas a DNA index of greater than 1.00 indicates that the two tested individuals are more likely to be true biological siblings.

A half-sibling DNA index can also be obtained to determine whether the siblings share only one common parent, versus two common parents. The ratio of the half DNA index versus the full DNA index establishes whether the two individuals share one parent or two parents. DNA testing can also help determine if twin siblings are fraternal or identical. For instance, if the DNA profiles of the twins are different then the siblings are considered fraternal; however, if the profiles are identical then a probability of being identical twins is calculated.

Sibling DNA tests are unlike paternity tests and do not provide a conclusive result; however, the tests might provide you with an indication of whether you are more likely to be or not to be the true biological sibling of the other tested individual.

DNA Testing provides detailed information on DNA Testing, Paternity DNA Testing, Free DNA Testing, At Home DNA Testing and more. DNA Testing is affiliated with DNA Structures.

10 Things You Could Be Using Photoshop For But Probably Aren

Auto Date Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Most people don’t use Photoshop to its fullest capabilities. Here are just ten uses to which you could put this highly versatile software.

1. Restoring Old Photographs. Have a look through that old family photo album - the really old one from up in Grandma’s attic. Inside there are probably a few photos from way back when that haven’t stood the test of time so well. They’ve got cracks and tears that really spoil their appearance. Scan them into Photoshop, and then set to work with the Clone Stamp, Healing Brush, and Patch tools. The Healing Brush in particular is a great tool for this purpose as it samples data from one part of the picture and blends it in with what’s already there.

2. Correcting Mistakes. We’ve all done it: Had an attack of “finger over the lens syndrome,” or got too close with the flash, so our subjects suffer from “red eye” and look like extras from a horror movie. Use the crop tool to salvage something usable from your obscured photo, and the enlarge wizard to blow it up to a reasonable size. For “red eye” and “pet eye,” use the eyedropper tool to sample color from around the iris, and a brush to paint away the red.

3. Adding Graphics to Videos. It’s a little known fact, but many domestic and professional nonlinear editing systems (especially the Mac based ones like Avid or Final Cut) enable you to import Photoshop .psd files directly into the timeline.

4. Creating Text Effects for Print and Web. There’s an almost unlimited amount of things you can do with text in Photoshop. Use the Type Mask Tools to create picture filled text, then upload the results to your web page - or print them out for a one of a kind T-shirt.

5. Turning a Photo Into a Work of Art. Everyone likes to have nice things to look at. Most of us like to have pictures on the wall, and something that looks different from what other people have on their walls is a definite plus. Unless you’re blessed with artistic talent, though, this can be very expensive - until now. Use one of Photoshop’s many Artistic or Brush Stroke filters to turn your photos into “new masters,” then print them out on quality art paper.

6. Designing Web Banners and Buttons. Photoshop comes with a predefined web banner sized canvas. Photoshop’s sister application, Image Ready, comes with several - and lots of tools for animating text and pictures. You can also create interactive buttons that enhance a web browsing experience.

7. Adding Text to Photographs. Impress your boss by putting the company name on the side of an airliner, building, or racing car. Use the Move Tool to skew the text to fit the contours of the picture, adjust the opacity a little, and hey presto! The text will look like it’s always been part of the photo.

8. Combining Pictures, Text, and Graphics to Make Covers for Books, Reports and CDs. Photoshop contains many of the image manipulation capabilities of high-end DTP applications that cost thousands. Use the “Layer via Cut” command to make your title text go behind part of the picture - just like on the cover of “Rolling Stone.”

9. Designing Web Pages. Did you know that Photoshop and Image Ready can turn your photograph or artwork into a web page? Use the slice tool to cut your work into easily downloadable pieces, then the rollover function to embed website URLs.

10. Combining Pictures to Make the Impossible Possible. Come on! You didn’t seriously think that Michael Moore and President George W. Bush really stood hand in hand on the White House lawn for the Fahrenheit 9/11 poster, did you? I don’t know for certain that they used Photoshop to fake that picture, but they certainly could have done. With Photoshop you can remove the background from one picture, take some elements from another, and combine them with the background from a third to create a picture that could never have been taken for real. Who says the camera can’t lie!

LCD vs Plasma TVs

Auto Date Sunday, May 25th, 2008

The two newest technologies in the world of TV are plasma and LCD. Plasma, the most recent technology, has been quickly coming down in price in the last couple of years, and is now relatively affordable. Currently, a 42-inch plasma display sells for approximately $2500, with cheaper - and smaller - versions available. LCD, or liquid crystal display, TVs have only recently taken off, and are currently more expensive than plasma. LCD technology, however, has existed for quite some time; it has been used in laptop computer screens for over a decade. Not until recently have larger versions of the LCD screen been produced. As larger LCD screen become available, along with decreasing prices, LCD becomes a much stronger plasma competitor.

The LCD screen has several benefits over plasma. For instance, LCD screens run much cooler than the average plasma TV, and thus require less power to operate. Plasma TVs run so hot, in fact, that they require a fan to cool them down - which can be noisy. In addition, plasma screens have a tendency to degrade over time, slowly becoming dimmer. LCD screens, on the other hand, run relatively cool, and do not degrade over time. Some Plasma owners, who have used their TVs for a few years now, have already witnessed the dimming of their screens. Also, LCD screens tend to have overall better picture quality, and are typically 10 to 15 percent lighter than plasma.

Thus, it seems that although Plasma has been the best selling of the two technologies up to this time, there is likely to soon be a trend in the opposite direction. The only obvious downside to LCD is currently its high price. Comparatively, LCD is twice as expensive has Plasma. However, as the price of LCD technology comes down, it is likely to be the overwhelming choice of flat-screen TV consumers.

Who’s the Hero of your Story?

Auto Date Sunday, May 18th, 2008

What can we learn from the heroes of the Silver Screen?
With the Spiderman movie having grossed roughly $334.3 million, shattering previous opening weekend revenue with a staggering $114 million (Harry Potter at $92 million and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones at $86 million), I thought we might take a look at why Spiderman is so popular.

One of the things that makes the Peter Parker / Spiderman combo such a fantastic character is that he’s so relatable. The shy, yet smart picture-taking guy from high school that’s always chasing after the bus, getting picked on by the school bully, and in love with the most popular, pretty girl in school. And no matter what your childhood / adulthood experiences have been, there’s a part of each of us that associates with Peter.

Once in costume, Parker transforms into his powerful alter ego — a witty, powerful, wall-crawling, web-slinging extrovert — another aspect that many of us want to see in ourselves.

Do you know why big stars like Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Denzel Washington make the big bucks? These actors do not clear $20 million a picture because they can memorize a bunch of lines, but because a part of us wants to be like the characters they play. We associate to them — we relate to how they react to events and what happens in the stories they create.

One of the best examples of this idea is the James Bond franchise. Millions of people around the world watch 007 movies over and over again because a part of us wants to be like Bond — we want to always look perfect, act cool, be intelligent, play with awesome gadgets, and get the girl.

Back to reality: Who’s the hero of your own life? The answer had better be YOU! We all must learn to become better heroes in our careers, our businesses, and our families.

We all have a witty, powerful, influential, “Creator of the Impossible” within us. It is up to us to shed the masks of our fears, our preconceived notions of what we can and cannot do, and our rules about how life is suppose to be.

Embrace the hero within and live a magnificent adventure!

Billboards: Modern Counterparts of Van Gogh and Da Vinci

Auto Date Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

Taking a drive down an unfamiliar road, or simply driving to and from work has become nowadays more pleasurable and less stressful. What with the multitude of billboards plastered all over the city and suburbs, they have become a wonderful centerpiece with the backdrop of heaven and earth.

Have you ever imagined what life would be like without these big, larger than life posters and signage to aesthetically improve our place? Are you not amazed at how great the quality and colors are? Are you not struck with the brilliance and true-to-life depiction of the images in each of these billboards?

When billboards were first posted, they not only expressed artistic creativity, they also were medium of information and reminders for people of current events and new products. The people then were not yet attuned on billboards being very powerful tools in helping others in ways that they have never imagined before. Fortunately today, we have learned of its uses and are utilizing them in several ways.

Billboards are the cheapest and it reaches more people than any other form of advertising. Thus, many small businesses, and even some of the big corporations for that matter, utilize this form of media because television and radio commercials are more expensive and costly.

One state in fact used billboards to improve the visual quality of their community, and also serve as tools to reduce alcohol consumption by minors. Still another state made several billboards to try to convince people to stop smoking, to prevent the spread of AIDS, and to offer pregnancy support.

However, despite its practical uses, billboards first and foremost are works of art in the modern sense. Its production process, from conceptualization to posting, is definitely a designer’s and artist’s imaginations put to life.

When designers are put to work to create these magnificent billboards, they do not see their assignment as something corporate or practical. I mean, sure, they see also the numbers in every assignment. But let’s face it. Within each of these designer and artist, the billboards are their next work of art. With every billboard assignment, they see themselves as the modern Leonardo Da Vinci and Vincent Van Gogh.

According to one review, Van Gogh’s most searching artistic analysis was of himself. This is shown in his famous self portraits. However, Van Gogh was also very appreciative of the profuse of colors found in nature. In fact, one of his very famous paintings was the Irises. Similar to his self portraits, Van Gogh’s Irises are carefully studied with the same sincerity and precision. The elements of colors- like the greens, red, yellow, orange and white, and the different ranges of blues- all made the painting look luxuriant and produce a gay colorfulness and richness.

Leonardo Da Vinci also recognized the importance of painting scenes that are very close to reality. He was keen to observe with great care how animals, people, and landscapes really looked. He was also careful to notice the differences on how an object looked when it was close by and when it was farther away, and when it was seen in bright light and in dim light. He turned his attention to nature during long walks. He wrote detailed notes on his observations and made sketches of the things he saw in his notebooks throughout his life.

Whether its Van Gogh or Da Vinci, designers and artists are sure to emulate what they have done. Thus, billboards are most likely to reflect reality and life. What you see in billboards is what we have of life- big reflections of us and our world.

And with the advent of computer technology, we have programs, softwares and equipment to help our artists and designers come up with brilliant, full color and striking images and designs that are sure to stand out. You’ll be amazed at the technology we have now that keeps these billboards fresh for the longest time that they have been exposed. Several manufacturers and developers managed to produce high grade materials and machines that could make the pictures and prints true to its original. Xerox, Adobe’s Creative Suite, Corel, Epson- these are just a few of the names that are there to help make their lives and work simpler.

Whether it’s film making, game development, commercial design, or even fine arts, every creation and output are worthy of praise. There is only one big difference- creating works of art now is faster and easier, thanks to advanced technology. Combined with the power of modern technology of digital media, natural talents and techniques obtained during the formative years can create breathtaking works of art that are at par, if not better, with those of the grand masters.

What a Stale Argument!

Auto Date Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Does politics has a place in genetically modified (GM) food
debate? “No”, is the obvious answer. Politics and science are
such sworn adversaries that they cannot eat from the same plate.
Politics mainly thrive on propaganda, vilification, name-calling
and personal gratification at the expense of the general good.
Science is anchored on verifiable facts, it is objective,
gentle, and seeks to make the world a better place for all of us
to live. You cannot politicize science unless you fancy
mediocrity.

One Jeffrey Smith, the author of “Seeds of Deception,” this week
advised South Africans to avoid genetically modified food like
plague. Why? South Africans stand to lose European beef and
poultry markets if they feed their livestock on genetically
modified food. To be on the safe side, South Africans should use
conventional feeds. Pooh!

“There is a massive rejection of genetically modified
ingredients in human food in Europe, and growing demand that
animals are fed on conventional crops,” Smith told his audience.
What a misleading advice!

Deliberately misleading the public on any issue is both morally
reprehensible and abominable. Those who exploit the
vulnerability of the poor for self gains risk isolation by the
world. Why misinform to confuse? United States of America is a
traditional grower of genetically modified food. The U.S.’s
European beef markets have not shrunk as a result of cultivating
GMOs.Latest statistics at the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) show beef and veal exports ballooned from 461
million pounds in 2004 to 615 billion pounds in 2005. The bulk
of the exports went to European markets. Smith lives in the U.S.
and ought to have made this clear to his audience. If he did so,
I would not be here penning this article.

Europe, itself, is fast embracing genetically modified food.
Last month, the European Union endorsed importation of
genetically modified animal feed. Does Smith want to tell South
Africa that Europe is shooting itself in the foot?

Already, farmers in five European Union countries, including
France and Germany are growing genetically modified food. They
have not lost their beef and poultry markets. In Spain, GMO
Maize’s harvest this year will top 50,000 hectares, all of which
will be used as cattle feed. Spain’s beef markets in Europe
remain intact. They are not in limbo. These are hard facts and
no amount of propaganda and grandstanding will change them.
Let’s be pragmatic when debating the issue of genetically
modified food. This is the only way to help consumers to make
informed decisons.

Debate on pros and cons of genetically modified food is a luxury
to Africa. Somebody should not make Africa believe that it would
lose oversees markets for growing genetically modified food.
Africa cannot feed itself as of now. Women and kids are dying in
Niger, Ethiopia, and Eritrea of hunger. Priority, now, should
not be to grow food for exports but to feed the hungry and the
malnourished. To scare Africa that it will lose oversees markets
is putting the cart before the horse.

We Aim To Please

A working understanding of temperament styles (personality types) will have a profound impact on the way you perceive yourself and will greatly enhance all of your relationships. If you are a salesperson, this information will significantly increase your sales effectiveness by enabling you to build trust and rapport quickly with your prospects and customers. Business owners and managers find this knowledge invaluable. It can improve the way you supervise your employees and allow you to recruit more effectively. As a parent, it can dramatically improve the way you relate to your children. If you are single, it can provide you insight into selecting a compatible mate.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, has been credited with originating the basic theory of temperament styles twenty-four hundred years ago. Hippocrates believed that we are born with a combination of four genetic influences that he called humors; Choleric (Worker), Sanguine (Talker), Phlegmatic (Watcher), and Melancholy (Thinker). He observed that these four styles have a direct influence on our physiology, character traits and outlook on life. In fact, the word temperament which is commonly used to describe personality types is a Latin term which means, “a mixing in due portion.” While we are each born with a primary temperament, our personality is comprised of all four styles. My temperament training system gives you the tools and knowledge to recognize a person’s primary temperament style through observation. Each primary temperament style exhibits a body language preference and has distinctive physical features and characteristics that are neither gender, race, nor age specific. This is a significant breakthrough in the study of temperament understanding because it is a practical system that can be used with everyone you meet. My temperament-training program allows you to put this information to use in your day-to-day encounters from the boardroom to the kitchen table. This article showcases the Phlegmatic/Watcher temperament style.

The Watcher temperament style is the S in the D.I.S.C. temperament profiling system. The Watcher is introverted, seeks harmony and their primary need is to accommodate others. This temperament is service oriented, dependable and unemotional. When interacting with others they warm up slowly, but are always cordial and accommodating. They are peacemakers and avoid confrontations by negotiating when possible. Their calm manner and unexcitable nature is a major asset. They have an innate ability to defuse hostile situations and soothe ruffled feathers. Watchers often have a nervous laugh that they use to create a sense of harmony when ending a conversation. They have difficulty accepting compliments or praise and become embarrassed when they are made the center of attention. Watchers are bashful and it is not uncommon for them to partially hide their face in a group photograph. Family and home life is extremely important to the Watcher and they protect their privacy.

This temperament style loves the status quo and resists change. Under pressure Watchers sleep in to avoid the situation at hand and hope that it will eventually disappear. This avoidance behavior is similar to the Ostrich burying its head in the sand. They dislike pressure and will do almost anything to avoid it. Due to their need to please others and promote harmony, Watchers use the tactic of sidestepping controversial issues by postponing or delaying decisions. When pressured, they will become extremely stubborn, dig their heels in and refuse to budge. Because they are uncomfortable with direct confrontation their behavior is often perceived as passive-aggressive. Watchers dislike taking personal responsibility and are apt to make excuses or blame others. The downside of this behavior is that they seldom learn from their mistakes. This temperament has a tendency to play the role of martyr and indulge in self-pity. Watchers are quiet, unassuming, people watchers. Their biggest fears are disharmony, change, infringement on home life and pressuring others.

Because they attempt to blend in and avoid attracting attention to themselves, Watchers are the most difficult temperament style to identify physically. They have a stoic expression and are difficult to read. They often have a pear-shaped body and due to their sedentary nature they tend to gain weight. When you think of a Watcher think of Jimmy Carter, Bob Newhart, Gerald Ford and Jean Stapleton.

Watcher’s Positive Traits

Stable - Tolerant - Supportive - Harmonious - Patient - Agreeable

Watcher’s Negative Traits

Indecisive - Passive - Undermining - Uninvolved - Selfish - Possessive

Watcher Behaviors

1. Avoids holding direct eye contact.
2. Soft spoken and patient
3. Listens with genuine interest.
4. Prefers to follow rather than lead.
5. Dislikes friction and conflict.
6. Can be stubborn and snoopy.
7. Tends to offer excuses when things go wrong.

How Watchers Can Improve

1. Speed up everything you do.
2. Speak your mind and don’t be afraid of disagreements.
3. Stand up for yourself and be more assertive.
4. Accept credit, compliments and praise.
5. Avoid the tendency to “smother love.”
6. Don’t try quite so hard to please people.
7. Learn to make decisions and stop procrastinating.
